SOUTH AFRICA AUSA Governance Values and Key Operating Principles
   
The benefits must be appropriate and delivered in a timely and cost effective manner.
The Exco is accountable to the Union’s membership.
All decisions made by the Exco must be financially prudent, ensuring that the overall financial health of the Union is maintained.
The Union must be effectively and capably managed and be in compliance with legislation and regulations.

The Union will be managed in accordance with its Constitution.

All members of the Union have the right to access services.

Discipline The Exco and every individual or group of individuals involved with the Union will commit to behaviour that is accepted to be correct and proper. The Exco and every individual or group of individuals involved with the Union will be aware of and commit to the underlying principles of good governance.
Transparency The Exco and every individual or group of individuals involved with the Union will commit to make necessary information in terms of the Union’s constitution available to members or other interested parties in a candid, accurate and timely manner. This will include audit data, reports and communication documentation. No attempt will be made by the Exco, an individual or group of individuals involved with the Union to conceal, obscure or otherwise obstruct the flow of information unless it is prohibited in terms of the Promotion of Information to Access Act, 2000.
Independence The Exco will institute mechanisms and processes to ensure that decisions remain objective and do not allow for undue influences by any individual or stakeholder.
Accountability The Exco will institute mechanisms and processes to allow for accountability of decisions and actions taken by Exco or any other individual, group of individuals or organisation that has been delegated that decision or action by the Exco. Members must be provided the means to query and assess the actions of Exco and its committees.
Responsibility The Board of Trustees and every individual or group of individuals involved with the fund will commit to act responsibly to and with responsibility towards the stakeholders of the Union. The Exco will take corrective action, and ensure that they perform according to their fiduciary duties.
Fairness Exco will institute mechanisms and processes to ensure that the rights and interests of all those that have an interest in the Union and the future of the Union are acknowledged and respected.
Communication Direct and indirect communication with membership.
Training The provision of training of Executive Council Office Bearers and Shop Stewards on matters arising from time to time, in order to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to represent their constituents.
